# CANOpenScope > CANOpenScope is a native desktop CANopen protocol analyzer and monitoring tool for Windows 10/11 and Linux x64. It decodes live CANopen traffic (NMT, SDO, PDO, SYNC, heartbeat, EMCY, error frames), reads and writes the Object Dictionary, maps and plots PDOs, runs CiA-style conformance tests, and exposes live bus data to AI assistants through an embedded MCP server. It interoperates with the open-source CANopenNode stack. Free for personal use; company use requires a license. ## Key facts - Type: desktop application (Flutter GUI, CANopenNode-based C engine, python-can adapter bridge). Not a web app, not open source. - Platforms: Windows 10/11 x64 (Microsoft Store, installer or portable zip) and Linux x64 (.deb or portable tar.gz). - CAN adapters: PCAN, Kvaser, IXXAT, GS-USB, Innomaker, SocketCAN (Linux). - Device profiles: EDS, XPD and XDD files populate per-node Object Dictionaries and PDO mappings. - Licensing: free for personal, hobby and evaluation use; commercial use is licensed (contact for a quote). ## Features - Live View: real-time message log and data table, filters, bus-load chart, active-node discovery and heartbeat states. - Timeline: every decoded frame on its own lane (NMT, SYNC, PDO, SDO, heartbeat, EMCY, ERR) with pan, zoom and hover decoding. - SDO & PDO: Object Dictionary read/write with type-aware values, visual PDO mapping, per-node PDO monitor, on-wire COB-ID resolution. - Data Visualizer: plot PDO-mapped variables as line or bar charts over a rolling window. - Conformance Test: CiA-style suite (bootup, state transitions, SDO, PDO, heartbeat) with per-test status and fix guidance. - Projects: .csp files store node names, COB-ID labels, device profiles and PDO mappings. - Bus Explorer and manual transmit: send any frame by CAN ID, DLC and data bytes, optionally periodic; hex or decimal input everywhere. - Network: NMT state commands and node reset, node scan via SDO 0x1000 (IDs 1-127), RTR frames. ## AI Gateway (MCP) - Embedded MCP server, Streamable HTTP, loopback only: http://127.0.0.1:10531/mcp - Enable in the app: Settings → AI Gateway → Enable AI Gateway (MCP server). Off by default. - Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http canopenscope http://127.0.0.1:10531/mcp` - Codex: `codex mcp add --url http://127.0.0.1:10531/mcp canopenscope` - Read tools: bus_status, list_nodes, read_packets, packet_stats, od_lookup, list_recordings, read_recording. - Control tools (opt-in switch): set_live_capture, set_recording. - Transmit tool (separate opt-in switch): send_packet. ## Links - [Website](https://canopenscope.com/): features, comparison, pricing, download, FAQ - [Download](https://canopenscope.com/#download): Windows and Linux builds - [Microsoft Store](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NKDKJLS982Q): certified Windows build with automatic updates - [Quick start video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGr6KHpuovo) - [Contact](https://canopenscope.com/#contact): questions and commercial licensing ## Optional - [Privacy policy](https://canopenscope.com/privacy.html)
